The students have been diverting the waste away from landfill by sending it to londonbased recycling company terracycle where the school gets 0.02 for every item donated.They have so far collected a total of 75 waste pens and 49 used toothbrushes and tubes.

The school is also calling on local people to help their collection efforts by bringing in their used writing instruments, toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes to the college's reception.

Victoria dinwoodie, sustainable schools coordinator for wymondham college, said: "We've always been big on recycling here, but after signing up with terracycle on the bic writing instruments brigade and the aquafresh oral care brigade the pupils are really gaining an insight into the importance of resource management and recycling.Any money raised will be split between the colleges six school houses which each select their own chosen charity each year.
